You are most likely to spot them lounging at the resort’s well-manicured beachfront pools, or catch a glance of top designers exchanging ideas at their extravagant spa, local movers and shakers sipping cocktails at their myriad bars, and yes, food writers flock their restaurants—ranging from elegant Chinese dining to a café-style buffet with an entire room dedicated to dessert. The sheer size and scale of this resort is designed to impress. Sweeping ceilings, ocean views, cascading glass chandeliers, fountains, reflecting pools and acres of gardens coalesce to create a palatial beachfront paradise. Everything here shines and sparkles, from the polished marble floors, to the beachfront infinity pool, to the smiles proffered by the attentive staff.
The resort feels like a super-chic theme park with the insane number of daily options for you to see, do, taste (though keep in mind that some areas of the resort are for the exclusive use of guests staying in that same area). Take a dip in one of the six outdoor pools, spend a day being pampered in the grandiose spa, play a game of tennis, participate in a complimentary class at the fitness centre, or do absolutely nothing while lounging on the beach, all while being served by one of the hundreds of helpful staff on hand to ensure every need is met.
The many hundreds of accommodations range from plush rooms with balconies or terraces, and marble bathrooms with free-standing baths, to upscale suites with living rooms and outdoor whirlpool baths, to magnificent high-end villas with individual artwork, ocean views, private pools and cinemas, internationally trained butlers, and even separate bedrooms for child minders. All room categories feature Smart TVs, high-thread-count sheets, and high-tech loos that open, close and flush automatically.
There are four restaurants and five bars, as well as a handful of exclusive dining options for guests staying at The Mulia or Mulia Villas, such as a complimentary afternoon tea time with cocktails. A breakfast buffet is served in The Café, with a mind-boggling array of choices ranging from Asian to Western, and a dessert room with cakes, cookies, gelato, donuts and pastries. Table8 serves Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine, while refined, poolside Soleil offers Mediterranean and Pan-Asian fare. And it keeps on coming, Edogin proffers an evening Teppanyaki buffet. The sophisticated indoor, outdoor, poolside and swim-up bars serve a variety of wines, beers, tropical cocktails, spirits and tapas.
The colossal scale of the resort makes it seem impossible to have the intimate level of service attainable at smaller resorts, but The Mulia has achieved the impossible. They have made a majestic, tropical palace feel like home.
